The Epic Games Store is giving away Breathedge and Rival Stars Horse Racing: Desktop Edition for free through September 3rd, with both titles normally priced at $24.99 each. Once claimed, both games stay permanently attached to your Epic account even after the promotional window closes, following Epic's standard weekly giveaway model that's run continuously since 2018

Breathedge is a first person survival game set in the wreckage of a destroyed spaceship, where players manage oxygen levels, scavenge materials, craft equipment and gradually explore farther into the surrounding debris field while investigating what caused the disaster, all narrated with a distinctly dark comedic tone that includes a recurring immortal chicken companion. Rival Stars Horse Racing: Desktop Edition covers racing, breeding, selling and cross country riding, alongside virtual race betting mechanics

Notably, Breathedge was also given away free on Steam for 48 hours back on August 7th, meaning this marks its second free promotional window in under a month across two different storefronts. Once this week's freebies rotate out, Epic's next giveaway starting September 3rd will be Alone With You, a 2017 adventure game about escaping a doomed space colony. Curious whether people have grabbed either of this week's free games yet, or are holding out for next week's offering instead

Lurker since the beginning

Breathedge getting a second free promotion across two different storefronts within a month is honestly a bit unusual, publishers don't typically want to devalue a title that quickly right after it was just free somewhere else

An immortal talking chicken as a companion in an otherwise fairly grim space survival setting is such a specific tonal choice, that kind of dark comedy mixed with genuine survival tension is a hard balance to actually pull off well
