I keep seeing different claims about where to watch the 2026 World Cup in the UK. Some people say it is all on BBC and ITV, others mention paid streaming services. I do not want to miss a single match. What is the definitive answer for UK viewers on where every game is shown and whether I need to pay for anything?

All 104 matches are free in the UK. BBC and ITV have split the rights and every single game is available on either BBC iPlayer or ITVX at no cost. There is no paid streaming required to watch every game. This is one of the genuinely good things about UK sports broadcasting rights for major tournaments

iPlayerify and similar browser extensions let you cast from a laptop to a TV if your television does not have a built-in smart platform. Worth knowing for anyone with an older TV that lacks app support but has an HDMI port

BBC gets the opening ceremony and opening match, the final, and a mix of high-profile group games and knockout rounds. ITV gets the rest. The split is broadly alternating with both broadcasters guaranteed the England matches. Check the schedules on both apps at the start of each week to know which platform each specific game is on

Freely is the platform that aggregates BBC iPlayer and ITVX in one place on compatible smart TVs. If your TV supports Freely it simplifies switching between the two without navigating separate apps. It works over WiFi with no aerial or dish needed which matters for anyone in a flat or rental property

The BBC iPlayer and ITVX apps are available on every major smart TV platform, Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast and all games consoles. If you have any of those devices you have free access to everything. There is no technical barrier to watching every match without paying
