What's your daily driver AI model right now, and why did it win out over the others

[AntMan]

Not asking which one benchmarks highest, asking which one you actually reach for by default when you open a new tab or terminal. Curious how much of that choice is genuinely about capability versus just habit and interface preference at this point

[CMPunk_Mike]

Switched my default three times this year alone chasing whichever one felt fastest for quick everyday questions, embarrassingly shallow reason honestly

[RandyOrton14]

Stick with whichever one is already integrated into my actual workflow, the marginal capability gap rarely justifies the friction of switching tools constantly

[GlobalBob37]

Genuinely rotate based on task type now instead of picking one default, feels like the smarter move once you actually internalize each model's strengths

[Wardlow86]

Mine came down to which one just felt right in tone for how I actually talk, capability differences are so marginal now that personality is the real differentiator

[QuantumKnight]

Still loyal to whichever one I learned prompting habits around first, sunk cost is doing a lot of heavy lifting in my choice if I'm honest

[Galaxy Sofia]

Ended up defaulting to one model mostly out of habit rather than careful evaluation.

It's the one that loads fastest and rarely makes me second guess the output.

That "good enough and consistent" factor wins more than peak intelligence.

Then the others get pulled in like specialists when things get messy.

Kind of like having a generalist and a few consultants on standby

Rotating models sounds smart in theory, but in practice it's a bit of a mental tax.

You open a tab and suddenly you're deciding which brain to borrow today.

Some days that decision alone feels like overhead.

So one becomes the default just to avoid thinking about it.

Efficiency beats optimization sometimes.

[Paul_13]

The daily driver tends to be the one that explains things well, not just outputs results.

Code that works is great, but code you understand is better.

That teaching angle keeps it in the rotation more than raw capability.

Other models might be sharper, but less helpful.

That difference adds up over time

[Ria88]

There's a bit of "muscle memory" involved now.

You learn how to prompt a specific model, what it responds well to, how to steer it.

Switching models breaks that flow slightly.

So even if another one is technically better, familiarity keeps pulling you back.

Not the most scientific approach, but it works
