This question always gets interesting because overrated does not always mean bad. Sometimes an artist is talented but the level of hype makes the music impossible to judge fairly.

For me, there are a few huge pop names where I understand the appeal, but the songs just do not stick after the first listen. That does not mean they have no skill, just that the conversation around them can feel bigger than the actual music.

A name that comes to mind is Drake, although that will probably start a debate. The guy has had an incredible run and plenty of memorable tracks, but sometimes the praise feels like people are judging his entire career rather than the specific album or song being discussed.

Still, staying relevant for that long is not easy. There must be something there even if everyone does not connect with it.

Not sure I agree with the usual picks here. A lot of artists called overrated are actually just popular with a different audience.

Someone who is not into country might say Taylor Swift is overrated, but the songwriting, touring numbers, and connection with fans are hard to dismiss. Popular does not automatically mean undeserved.

For me it is more about the newer wave of artists who get called geniuses after a handful of songs. A great debut can create impossible expectations.

Sometimes the second album is where you find out whether there is a real artistic identity or just a moment that caught fire.

The Weeknd is an interesting one because the production is often incredible, but I have heard people say the image sometimes overshadows the music.

Personally, the atmosphere is a big part of the appeal. His songs are designed to create a feeling, not just show off technical ability.
