I am currently paying for Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus, and a Perplexity subscription. That is somewhere around 70 dollars a month depending on exchange rates. I justified each one at the time and now I look at the total and wonder if I have been slowly boiled like a frog.

The honest audit for me is that Claude gets used every day for actual work, ChatGPT gets used once or twice a week out of habit, and Perplexity gets used when I want sourced answers quickly. So I am probably paying for one redundant subscription. I suspect this is very common.

Curious what people here are actually spending, what they are keeping versus cancelling, and whether anyone has done a proper audit and made cuts. Also interested in anyone using API access directly instead of subscription interfaces and whether that is actually cheaper at the usage levels most people run

Claude Pro and Kagi for search, cancelled everything else six months ago and have not missed it

Normal is overrated

DarkLantern

Ad free search with no SEO gaming, it is 10 dollars a month and the quality difference from Google is genuinely significant
Opinions are my own. Obviously. Dave

I am on the Claude Max plan for the higher limits and it is absolutely worth it for my workload, probably saving me four to six hours a week

Sparrow

API access directly for everything, much cheaper at my usage level and I can switch models without paying for multiple subscriptions

Clever Erin

API access is the move if you are technical enough to set it up, the per token cost at typical usage is way less than subscription pricing

GhostRider63

I cancelled ChatGPT Plus last month and genuinely have not noticed any gap in my workflow, Claude handles everything I was using it for

Shane

Still paying for ChatGPT because my team uses it and I need to stay current on what it can do, not really using it for personal work

The subscription creep in this space is real, I added things one at a time and only noticed when I looked at my bank statement

TheRock

70 dollars a month on AI tools is honestly cheap compared to what this workflow would have cost in consultant or employee time a few years ago, reframe the number
