WWE reportedly discussed LA Knight dethroning Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank

After Roman Reigns successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Penta on this week's Monday Night Raw, WWE quickly confirmed his next challenger, LA Knight, who earned the shot after siding with Solo Sikoa and Royce Keys against The Bloodline's Usos and Jacob Fatu at SummerSlam. The two men have genuine history too, first clashing at Crown Jewel back in 2023 before sharing the ring again at the 2024 Royal Rumble alongside AJ Styles and Randy Orton, with Reigns coming out on top both times.

According to Self Made Sessions, WWE has actually discussed the idea of Knight finally beating Reigns for the title at Money in the Bank on October 10th, with one floated version of the finish involving Solo Sikoa getting directly involved in the result. That specific finish would reportedly set up Reigns being pulled into this year's WarGames storyline afterward rather than simply written off television. Self Made Pro was careful to note this is not a locked in plan yet, just an idea currently floating around backstage.

The timing matters because of what it could mean for WrestleMania 43. Dave Meltzer separately reported last week that WWE may already have one of that show's main events planned, featuring Reigns against Oba Femi, though it's unclear whether that match would even be for the World Heavyweight Championship given Femi's own King of the Ring win and subsequently postponed title match. If Knight actually does dethrone Reigns at Money in the Bank, several scenarios could still play out before WrestleMania, Reigns briefly dropping the title and reclaiming it, the planned Femi match shifting entirely, or the title picture simply reshuffling around whatever Knight does with the belt in the interim.

Giving someone new an extended run at the top before locking in WrestleMania plans for a show in Saudi Arabia is exactly the kind of move WWE has leaned on before when it wants to freshen up the title picture without fully committing to a permanent change in direction
