CBS Sports has a current preview for WWE Backlash 2026, with the event set for 9 May in Tampa and Roman Reigns vs Jacob Fatu among the major matches being discussed. This feels like the first proper test of the post-WrestleMania direction. Is Roman still the centre of the company, or is this where WWE starts pushing the next family war harder?

Roman versus Jacob is exactly the sort of match that can make Backlash feel bigger than a normal follow-up show

I like it if WWE uses this to move the family story forward rather than just giving Roman another win

Jacob needs to come out of this looking dangerous, even if Roman wins

Backlash works best when it answers what WrestleMania changed, and this match could do that

Yep, agree with that. Totally get that.

The gap between theory and practice is always bigger than you expect until you have tried it yourself.
