Old-style forums have a slower rhythm than social media, and that can be a good thing. Threads stay organised, useful answers can be found years later, and members build reputations through repeated helpful posts rather than quick reactions. Social media is faster, but forums are often better at preserving knowledge, context, and proper discussion.
