This forum has a lot of good signal to noise ratio on the technical side but sometimes I want to know what people here do when they close the laptop. Recommendations welcome for books, shows, films, games, anything. No AI content, no quantum papers, no industry news. Just stuff you are enjoying as a human being.

I have been reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver which won the Pulitzer a couple of years back. It is a retelling of David Copperfield set in Appalachian opioid crisis America and it is one of the best things I have read in years. Also rewatching The Wire from the start because a friend had never seen it and I had forgotten how tightly constructed the first season is.

Also playing Caves of Qud which is one of those games where you lose three hours and feel like you blinked. Wildly complex and completely unlike anything being made by major studios right now

NinaVrina

Currently reading The Women by Kristin Hannah and trying to understand how she writes books this fast and this good
VAR can do one

Cheeky Shaun

Just finished Orbital by Samantha Harvey which won the Booker last year, if you have not read it do it in one sitting

MurkyInlet

Been playing Balatro more than I want to admit, there is something about that game that is genuinely impossible to put down
Come on you Reds.

Courier53

Rewatching Deadwood and it holds up absolutely perfectly, the dialogue is like nothing else on television
Long time lurker, first time poster

HeartbreakKidStinger64

Reading Kim Stanley Robinson's new one and trying to figure out how someone can write so productively about climate without it becoming didactic
git commit -m "fixed everything"

GhostRider

Playing Elden Ring DLC still, yes I know it came out ages ago, I am slow, leave me alone
Here more than I should be

Connor82

Watching Slow Horses on Apple TV which is the best spy show since The Americans and nobody talks about it enough

Gareth5

My team is always one signing away

Grim Tracey

Reading a biography of John von Neumann which technically edges into tech adjacent territory but it reads like a thriller so I am counting it

TheRizz00

Caves of Qud is one of those games that makes you realise how little imagination most AAA titles have, good shout

Cobra

I have been learning to make sourdough which has zero intellectual content and I love it
Coffee first. Questions later.
