What is the most visually impressive thing you have watched recently?

The first thing that came to mind was Dune: Part Two. The scale of that film is ridiculous, especially the desert scenes and the way Denis Villeneuve uses silence and space. It actually feels like you are watching another world rather than a set with some CGI added later.

For me it was The Last of Us season one. The abandoned cities, overgrown buildings and little details in the environments were incredible. The shot of nature taking back civilisation was more impressive than any big explosion scene for me.

Some people focus only on flashy visuals, but atmosphere counts too. A rusty car or a quiet street can tell a whole story if it is done properly.

Anyone mentioning Avatar: The Way of Water gets a nod from me. Whatever people think of the story, the underwater sequences are on another level. The colours, movement and creatures look like someone turned a documentary into a fantasy film.

The funny thing is that after all the technology talk, the biggest achievement is that it still feels natural. Making something impossible look normal is probably the hardest trick.
