The Peddi trailer dropped on May 19 and within 24 hours it had 101 million views, setting a new record for a Telugu film trailer. It trended number one across India in every language. Director Buchi Babu Sana and producer Venkata Satish Kilaru have mounted what looks like a genuinely epic production with Ram Charan sporting multiple looks and mastering several sports for the role.

Telugu cinema has been delivering some of the most ambitious and visually spectacular productions in global film for several years. Peddi looks like a continuation of that trajectory.

Opinions are my own. Obviously.

The production scale visible in the trailer is extraordinary. This is not a small film wearing big film clothing

Buchi Babu Sana directing Ram Charan after their previous collaboration is the creative reunion people have been waiting for
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

The multiple looks and multiple sports disciplines thing suggests a character with a genuine arc rather than a single note performance

Western critics still underestimate how cinematically sophisticated Telugu productions have become. The craft visible in two minutes of trailer is significant

Trending number one across all Indian languages is the metric that matters. This crossed language barriers in its home country before reaching international viewers

The comparison to Spider-Man Brand New Day numbers is interesting. Different scale of industry, proportionally equivalent cultural moment
