Google recaps a packed month of AI announcements from July 2026

Google put out its monthly AI recap covering everything announced in July, and its a genuinely wide ranging list that spans developer tools, robotics, creative apps and even wildfire detection satellites, showing just how many fronts the company is pushing on simultaneously

On the developer side they released three new Gemini models, 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite and 3.5 Flash Cyber, all specifically built for higher token efficiency and lower latency to support scaling production AI agents, and they also launched Gemini Robotics ER 2, their most capable embodied reasoning model yet, designed to help robots chat naturally with people, understand their surroundings and work through complex multi-step physical tasks

On the creative side Google Vids added Gemini Omni and personal avatars for generating and editing video clips using plain language plus creating a custom digital avatar to star in your own videos, and they launched Lyria 3.5, their newest music generation model, which they say delivers real improvements in musicality, lyrics and vocal quality

Theres also a genuinely fun bit of AI applied to sports history, Google DeepMind technology was used to reconstruct Pelés famous lost 1959 goal, three consecutive sombreros over defenders and the goalkeeper without the ball ever touching the ground, that was never actually captured on film at the time

On the public good side, three new FireSat satellites launched specifically for early wildfire detection, NOAA is now using Google Clouds high performance virtual machines to run its atmospheric weather models, and Google DeepMind published a joint bioresilience approach with Isomorphic Labs aimed at preventing AI model misuse for biological threats while still letting legitimate researchers and biosecurity experts use the technology
