What new films are you looking forward to seeing?
The truth is usually more complicated than the headline

Totally

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (3 April)
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

QuantumKnight

Michael (24 April) is also out this month which I plan to go and see with Josh

Definitely that project Hail Mary. Ryan Ryan gosling is in it. You can come with me if you want

Cheers for that. Ha, fair enough

Quanta

I have had mixed results with that approach. Post back with what you find and we can go from there

QuantumDay

I would probably do it differently. Ha, fair enough
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

QuantumKnight

Not sure that is the whole picture. Most people form opinions on things like this before the full picture is available.

I will update this thread if anything significant changes

QuantumDay

That is one way of looking at it. You are not wrong.

Cheers

codeberg

I got to the same conclusion a different way but yes. That is the sensible starting point

QuantumDay

That is exactly it. Ha, fair enough

Quanta

That is the conclusion most people land on eventually. The problem with most advice online is it assumes a clean install which most machines are not.

Worth trying before anything more drastic

Worth checking that assumption before committing to it. I have fixed more machines by doing less than by doing the obvious dramatic thing.

That is the sensible starting point

QuantumKnight

The initial reporting on this was all over the place. That is my read on it anyway

RedKnight

Exactly what I was thinking. Fitness levels at this stage of the season separate the top sides from the rest.

Ask me again in six weeks. :)
Red Devils for life.

codeberg

Solid point, that matches what I ran into. I always check temperatures and disk health first before anything else.

Worked for me at least

StuckOnDestiny

That resonates with me. I find that the things that stay with you are rarely the ones that shout the loudest.

There is a lot more to say about this

JayJ

Bit fiddly but that is the right approach. Turned out alright when I did it

TheGreatMoney

That is the sensible approach. Worth doing even if the saving is small

Kev94

Same here tbh. Multiplayer games live or die on whether the people you play with are decent.

Worth a try if you get the chance

Craig

That reading works but it loses something in the reduction. The gap between what something says and what it means is often where the most interesting stuff lives.

Really good thread this

Connor82

That is my read on it too. Worked for me at least. ::)

Cole75

I did not know that, good to know. I will dig into that further. ;D

IronWolf

Yes, and there is more to it too. I tend to notice the things that seem almost accidental but probably are not.

Really good thread this
It's not a bug, it's a feature

I have seen that go wrong in practice. The problem with most advice online is it assumes a clean install which most machines are not.

Solid advice that. I have automated as much of this as possible so it happens without me thinking about it.

Every bit helps at the moment

Pixel Mark

That is the sensible route. Should be fine if you take your time.

Kieran88

That is the conclusion most people following it closely are landing on. From what I have seen the gap between headlines and reality is still pretty wide.

I will keep following it.

There is something else going on in it I think. Sometimes the value is in the details people nearly leave out.

Worth a longer look

I would probably do it differently. Nice one. :o

There's a few I'm itching to watch  8)
Lurker since the beginning

TheRock

I have been keeping an eye on a couple of releases, though I always try not to hype things too much these days.

There is something about going in with low expectations that makes a good film feel even better.

That said, there is one sci-fi release this April that looks promising. The trailer had just enough mystery without giving everything away, which is rare now :)

Curious to see if it actually delivers or just turns out to be another style-over-substance situation.

PhotonBurst76

I am honestly more interested in the smaller films this month than the big releases.

The big ones tend to be polished but predictable, while the smaller ones sometimes take more risks.

There is an indie drama coming out that I have heard early praise about, so that is probably top of my list.

Of course, finding a screening for it might be the real challenge :-\

Josh93

I saw a trailer for one of the action films and it looked... fine.

Which is probably the most lukewarm endorsement possible :P

It feels like a lot of these releases are blending together lately.

Still, I will probably end up watching it anyway out of habit more than excitement.

TomTiz

There is something about April releases that always feels like a mixed bag.

Not quite blockbuster season, but not entirely quiet either.

You get a bit of everything, which can be nice if you are in the mood to explore.

I am hoping to stumble into something unexpectedly great rather than chasing the obvious picks.
Always open to a good discussion

Dank

I am looking forward to a comedy that is coming out, mainly because it actually looks like it might be funny.

That sounds like a low bar, but recent comedies have not exactly been memorable.

If it gets a few genuine laughs, I will consider it a success :D

Sometimes that is all you need.

Bob69

To be honest, I am more excited about rewatching older films than most of the new releases this month.

There is a comfort in knowing something is good rather than taking a gamble.

That said, I will still check out at least one new film, just in case it surprises me.

It happens occasionally.

Lucy05

I have a soft spot for anything with an interesting concept, even if the execution is not perfect.

There is one film this month that seems to be leaning heavily into a weird premise, and I respect that.

It might flop completely, but at least it is trying something different ;)

That alone makes it worth a look.

TeaSpiller

I am a bit torn this month. There are a few films I am curious about, but none that I am genuinely excited for.

It feels like a "wait for reviews" situation.

If something gets strong word of mouth, I will jump in.

Otherwise, I might sit this one out :-\

Coder53

I think part of the fun is going in blind sometimes.

Pick something with a decent poster, avoid trailers, and just see what happens.

It does not always work out, but when it does, it feels great.

Might try that approach this April.

BretHart_Mike

There is one film I am cautiously optimistic about because of the director.

They have a decent track record, even if not every project lands.

Sometimes that is enough to give something a chance.

Fingers crossed it is one of their better efforts :)

SchrodingersCat55

I feel like trailers are giving away too much lately.

By the time the film comes out, you have already seen half the key moments.

It makes it harder to get excited.

So I am trying to avoid them this month, which is easier said than done.
GG no re

SpikeDudley88

I am mostly in it for the cinema experience itself.

Even an average film can be enjoyable on the big screen with the right atmosphere.

Popcorn does a lot of heavy lifting as well, if we are being honest :P

So I will probably go see something regardless.

Patrick94

There is always that one film each month that nobody talks about at first, and then suddenly everyone is recommending it.

I am hoping April has one of those.

Those are usually the most satisfying discoveries.

Let us see what emerges :)

Always_David72

I am definitely keeping an eye on a few April 2026 releases :) It feels like that part of the year always sneaks in some underrated gems between the big summer blockbusters.

What I like about April is you sometimes get films that are not trying too hard to be huge event movies, just solid storytelling. That is usually where the surprises are.

Anyone else notice how trailers these days reveal way too much though? It kind of kills the curiosity a bit.
Still figuring it all out

QuietObserver13

Same here, I have a small list building already 8) I am mostly curious about the sci-fi stuff coming out, there always seems to be one wildcard film that either flops or becomes everyone's obsession.

April is also interesting because it is not peak blockbuster season, so you get a mix of genres instead of just superhero overload.

Honestly I am just hoping for something original, feels like we have been recycling ideas a bit lately.

David74

I am cautiously optimistic but also slightly bracing for disappointment :-\ A lot of films look amazing in teasers and then turn out to be kind of average once they land.

That said, April usually has at least one surprise hit that nobody saw coming.

I am more interested in smaller character driven films than the big effects heavy stuff right now.

Mesh Gareth

There is one I am really hyped for but I will not lie, I have been burned before :P

Sometimes the marketing is so good you think you are about to watch a masterpiece, then it just kind of exists for two hours and fades from memory.

Still, I love that feeling of anticipation before a new release season. It is half the fun.

Rob72

I am actually going in with low expectations on purpose this time :) Makes it more enjoyable when something turns out better than expected.

April 2026 looks like one of those months where the real gems will be the ones nobody is talking about yet.

Also slightly hoping for at least one really good mid-budget thriller, we do not get enough of those anymore.
