Is best VPN for home use still worth it in - July 2026?

That is the take I have had for a while. There is usually more recency bias in these discussions than people admit.

A VPN can still be useful at home, but the reasons have changed a bit. Years ago people talked about it like a magic privacy cloak. Now it is more about adding another layer, especially on public Wi-Fi, hiding your traffic from your ISP to a degree, and accessing services while travelling.

The big thing is not picking the cheapest one with a flashy advert. Some of the bargain providers make me more nervous than no VPN at all.
