Thinking of getting a new one. I like my iPhone 13 but the 16 looks good
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

Not too much difference . Price dependent
The truth is usually more complicated than the headline

QuantumDay

Haha mine is an old brick. But I don't worry about breaking it
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

VB

Yeah I've dropped mine in the toilet more than once. But I invest in a good screen protector

VB

Not sure about that bit tbh. Some of the best games I have played were ones I picked up with zero expectations.

Worth a try if you get the chance

That is one way of looking at it. Cheers

QuantumDay

That is exactly it. Same here honestly.

Thanks for that. >:(

Quanta

Basically my experience exactly. That is the sensible starting point

Totally

That is one way of looking at it. Yeah been there.

Ha, fair enough
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

codeberg

That is the obvious answer but not always the right one. I have learned to be suspicious of any fix that requires you to change multiple things at once.

Let us know how it goes

QueueDay

That is the sensible approach. Good to know about

Solid advice that. The comparison sites are fine as a starting point but always go direct to confirm the terms.

Might save you more than you think

Yeah that sounds about right. Let me know what you think

That works until it does not. Most people skip the diagnostic step and go straight to reinstalling things unnecessarily.

TommyB_20

That is the take I have had for a while. We will know soon enough

HitmanMatt53

That resonates with me. The gap between what something says and what it means is often where the most interesting stuff lives.

There is a lot more to say about this
GG no re

Cheugy

That is worth it, agreed. The best deals are usually the ones that do not get advertised loudly.

Not a life changer but it adds up. :)
Football is life. Everything else is just details.

That is the conclusion most people land on eventually. I would try the least destructive fix first before changing too much at once.

Worth trying before anything more drastic
VAR can do one

Same here really. Appreciate the discussion

I love the way you put that. I find that the things that stay with you are rarely the ones that shout the loudest.

Glad this came up. ;D

I think the regular iPhone is underrated
Not everyone needs a massive phone or the absolute top camera system

For calls, messages, social media, and light photos it's more than enough and way less expensive

Harbour

People always overcomplicate this question
If you can afford it, just get the latest Pro Max and be done with it

Battery, camera, display, it's usually the most complete package Apple offers each cycle, even if the upgrades are incremental
My team is always one signing away

Omega

Hot take but I think Apple is at the point where "best iPhone" is mostly about size preference now
The performance gap between models is tiny for normal usage

Unless you're doing heavy video work or gaming, you're not really pushing any of them

NeonPhantom39

I'm still using an older Pro model and honestly it still feels fast
That says a lot about how incremental these upgrades have become

At this point I upgrade more for battery health than actual new features

Jonathan_Repetto

Honestly at this point the "best" iPhone depends on what you actually care about
If you want raw performance, the Pro models are still the safe pick, but most people won't notice the difference in daily use

For most users I'd say last year's Pro model is still the sweet spot if you can get it cheaper

Zach

I mostly agree with the idea that last year's Pro is the sweet spot right now. Apple has gotten so incremental that the gap between generations is shrinking in real day to day use.

Unless you're doing heavy video work or gaming, you are not really going to feel the difference between a Pro from last year and the newest model.

Honestly the biggest upgrade cycle now feels like battery health rather than raw specs.

Aisha

I think people underestimate how good the base models have become. Not everyone needs ProMotion, triple cameras, or titanium frames.

For most users, the standard iPhone already feels overpowered for messaging, browsing, photos, and apps.

The marketing pushes Pro models hard, but in real life usage the base phone covers like 90 percent of what people do.

RandyOrton

Hot take but I think the best iPhone in 2026 is the one you can actually afford without thinking about it for a week after.

People get too caught up in spec sheets when the real world difference is tiny for most tasks.

I'd rather have a slightly older phone with no financial stress than the absolute latest Pro Max.

BiscuitTin

The Pro Max still wins if you care about battery and screen size though. That thing is basically a mini tablet at this point.

If you watch a lot of video or travel a lot, it is genuinely the most comfortable option.

But yeah, it's definitely overkill for someone just scrolling socials and texting.

WearyCoder

I upgraded from a 2 year old Pro recently and honestly the difference was not life changing. It is smoother, yes, but not in a way that changes how I use the phone.

Camera improvements are nice but mostly noticeable in edge cases like low light or zoom.

I think we have hit the plateau phase for smartphones.
Just here for the craic :)

Blake_32

One thing people forget is software support. Even if hardware differences are small, getting longer updates can justify going newer.

That alone might matter more than a slightly better camera or chip.

Future proofing is underrated in these discussions.

Wendy5

I actually think the best value is usually one generation behind Pro models, not the current base model or the newest Pro.

You get premium build, better cameras, and still solid performance at a lower price.

That is the sweet spot if you care about balance rather than hype.

HeartbreakKidOscar97

Battery life is the real deciding factor for me, not performance benchmarks.

If a phone lasts me a full day without anxiety, I am happy.

Everything else feels like marginal gains that sound better on paper than they feel in practice.

ReasoningCore40

I know some people will disagree but I think the base iPhone is enough for like 80 percent of users.

People overbuy storage and features they never use.

Then they end up carrying a more expensive device just to open Instagram and WhatsApp.

CMPunk02

The funny thing is how predictable these discussions are every year. New model comes out, people say it is revolutionary, then everyone realizes it feels exactly like the previous one.

Then the next year we repeat the cycle.

At some point it becomes more about habit than innovation.

Compass

If you actually use the camera a lot, especially for video, then Pro models still justify themselves.

The stabilization and extra lenses do matter in real scenarios.

But if you are just taking casual photos, the difference is not dramatic anymore.

TomTiz

I think Apple has kind of optimized iPhones into a boring but excellent zone.

Nothing feels broken, nothing feels drastically new, everything just works.

So the question shifts from "what is best" to "what is enough".
Always open to a good discussion

BigDogShane10

My honest recommendation in 2026 is just buy the newest non-Pro if you are upgrading from something old, or last year's Pro if you want premium feel on a budget.

Everything else is diminishing returns at this point.

Unless you are a power user, you are not missing much either way.
It's only banter... mostly

Ann

Ah yes, the timeless question with the equally timeless answer: the most expensive one you can justify to yourself.

If you want specifics, the Pro models are usually the "best" on paper. Whether you need that much phone is another story entirely.
RTFM and then ask

Zero-Point

Best for what though? Camera, battery, bragging rights, or just surviving a full day without charging like a responsible adult?

Because those answers are not always the same phone.
First post best post

NightHarbour91

If we are being honest, most recent iPhones are more similar than different. The jump between generations is now more "nice upgrade" than "life changing event."

Unless your current phone is ancient, you are mostly buying refinements.

Dom9

The Pro Max is technically the best, but it is also roughly the size of a small cutting board.

Great for battery and media, less great if you enjoy having functioning pockets.

ProperJobs98

I went for a non-Pro model and have zero regrets. It does everything I need without making me feel like I should be shooting a documentary at any moment.

Sometimes less "pro" is more peace of mind.

RomoneyWalters

Honestly, the best iPhone is the one you do not have to think about. Good battery, decent camera, no lag.

Everything else is just marketing trying to make you feel like you are missing out.

Zach91

If camera matters, then yes, go Pro. Apple really leans into that.

If your camera roll is mostly screenshots and blurry food pictures, you can probably save some money.

NovaPrime68

People always say "get the Pro" like it is a universal truth, but half of them are not using any of the Pro features.

It is like buying a race car for grocery runs.

NeverQuitRoss81

Battery life should be the real deciding factor, in my opinion. A slightly worse camera is easier to live with than a phone that dies at 5pm.

That is the real daily experience.
