The Golden Boot race at this summer's 48-team World Cup is wide open. Mbappe is the favourite at around 6/1 having already scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup appearances across two tournaments. He is four away from Miroslav Klose's all-time record. Kane is close behind at 7/1 fresh off 50+ goals for Bayern Munich this season. Haaland at 12/1 depends heavily on how far Norway go. Messi is at 12/1 in what could be his last tournament. Julian Alvarez at 33/1 looks like the best each-way value.

Mbappe is the pick but only if France go deep. The Golden Boot is almost always won by a player from a semi-finalist and France are built to go all the way

Kane has had the most prolific season of his career at Bayern. 50+ goals. He is coming in at peak form and England have a soft group. He deserves more respect in this market

Amber78

Haaland is the best pure scorer in the sport right now but Norway going out in the group stage is a real risk. Without games he cannot accumulate. High ceiling, high floor concern

Fan

Messi at 12/1 is tempting sentimentally but his form for Inter Miami has not been elite for a while. The body is willing but the minutes are limited

Taker00

Julian Alvarez at 33/1 is the value pick. Argentina will go deep as defending champions, he takes penalties, and he scored four goals in 2022. Massively underpriced

BrightCanopy

With 48 teams the group stage should see big scorers pad their numbers against weaker opposition. Whoever faces the softest draw in rounds 1 to 3 starts with a huge advantage

Nina81

Michael Olise at 40/1 is the dark horse worth a small flutter. France have so many creators around him and he has been extraordinary at Real Madrid this season
