Every sport has rules that fans love to argue about. Some feel outdated, some create confusion and some just seem to make the game less fun to watch. Governing bodies tweak rules all the time, but rarely in the way fans would choose. So if you had the power to change one rule in any sport, what would it be?

Football gives us plenty of options, from VAR and handball to time wasting and the offside rule. Cricket has debates about the lbw law and over rates. Formula 1 seems to change its rules every season, with arguments over tyres, DRS and penalties. Darts, snooker, rugby and tennis all have their own controversies too

I would like to see proper stopping of the clock in football for injuries and substitutions, so that ninety minutes means ninety minutes of play. It seems to work in rugby, and it would end endless arguments about stoppage time. Time wasting would become pointless overnight

Your change could be a serious improvement or something purely for entertainment. A few people would probably love to see F1 drivers swap cars at random, or darts players throw from further back. Just explain why your rule would make the sport better. Silly ideas are welcome, as long as you can defend them

Which rule would you change, in which sport, and why?

Cricket should limit the number of overs a team can bowl in a day without penalty. Slow over rates are a scourge. Teams already get fined, but it does not change much

Darts should have a shot clock. Some players take forever between throws. It would speed up matches nicely. Some players lose rhythm when opponents dawdle. It is a tactic, and it is boring
