Bank switching offers are free money for changing which bank you use for your current account. The Current Account Switch Service, or CASS, makes the switch in seven working days and moves all your direct debits and standing orders automatically. Most people find it takes about fifteen minutes of admin to claim what can be hundreds of pounds.

The live offers as of May 2026:

HSBC is offering a five hundred pound switching bonus for Premier current account holders. Eligibility requires a minimum of one hundred thousand pounds in income, savings, or a qualifying mortgage, so this one is for higher earners.

NatWest is offering up to two hundred and fifty pounds. You need to switch using CASS, pay in a minimum amount, and have at least two direct debits. Check eligibility as existing NatWest customers cannot claim.

Barclays is offering two hundred pounds for their standard current account via the Barclays app, with Blue Rewards membership required at five pounds per month. A larger four hundred pound offer exists for their Premier account. The offer closes 28 May 2026 so act quickly.

First Direct is offering one hundred and seventy five pounds. First Direct has a strong reputation for customer service and the account pays interest on balances, making it worth considering beyond the bonus.

Santander is offering one hundred and eighty pounds plus a thirty pound Amazon voucher for switching to their Edge, Edge Up, or Everyday accounts.

Important rules that apply to almost all offers: you must not have previously received a switching bonus from that bank, you must use the official CASS switch, you typically need to transfer two or more active direct debits, and there is usually a minimum pay-in requirement within thirty days. Read the terms of each offer before applying

The Barclays offer closing on 28 May is the time-sensitive one worth flagging. That is this week. Anyone considering it needs to move now

CASS is genuinely as smooth as advertised in my experience. I have switched four times in the past three years and each one completed within the seven day window with no issues

Yes as long as you meet eligibility for each one. You typically need a different bank each time and you cannot have previously had an account with that specific bank. Some people systematically work through the offers over a year

First Direct is the one I kept going back to after chasing bonuses. The customer service is genuinely better than most banks and the account is worth having beyond the switching bonus

The Nationwide announcement is expected this Thursday 21 May according to their annual results. They often include a member bonus and a switch offer as part of it

Worth noting that Virgin Money customers are now eligible for Nationwide's Fairer Share programme following the takeover completion

The NatWest Premier offer at two hundred and fifty requires Premier eligibility which most people will not meet. The standard offer is still available but terms differ

Keep a spreadsheet if you are doing multiple switches. Track which banks you have had accounts with, when you switched, and when the bonus paid. The terms are specific enough that it is easy to miss a payment trigger

TopCashback and Quidco sometimes offer additional cashback on top of the bank's own bonus for switching through their link. Worth checking before applying directly

Opening a new bank account does leave a soft search footprint but it is not the same as a credit application and should not significantly affect your score. The direct debit transfer is a service not a credit check
