Looking for a tablet I can genuinely use for work, not just media consumption. Needs to handle documents, email, some light photo editing, and video calls. Budget around 600 to 800 pounds. Which platform is actually worth it in 2026 for a working adult?

Already own a Windows desktop so either platform works

Dan

For actual work at that budget the iPad with keyboard and Apple Pencil is the clearest recommendation in 2026. The M2 or M3 iPad Air gives you genuine laptop-class performance, the best tablet app ecosystem, and the best stylus for annotation and light illustration

Windows tablets at that price point mean the Surface Pro 11 or similar. The advantage is full Windows so every app you use on your desktop just works. The disadvantage is battery life and the operating system was not designed for touch first

Android tablets have improved enormously. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus is genuinely excellent hardware. The software situation is better than it was but the tablet-optimised app ecosystem still lags behind iPad significantly

For documents and email any of the three work fine. The differentiator is the specific apps you depend on. If you use Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft 365, or Zoom the iPad versions are full-featured. Some niche professional apps only exist on Windows

The keyboard situation matters enormously for real work. Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad is excellent but expensive. Samsung Book Cover keyboard is good. Surface Type Cover is the best Windows option but adds to the cost

Battery life for a work day without charging: iPad wins comfortably, Android is decent, Surface Pro struggles on demanding workloads

Delulu

The Stage Manager multitasking in iPadOS has made genuine multi-app work much more usable than it was two years ago. It is still not Windows but for document plus email plus browser it works well
VAR can do one

Consider the accessories ecosystem total cost. A good iPad keyboard cover and Apple Pencil add 200 to 300 pounds. That changes the value calculation significantly

If you do a lot of video calls specifically the iPad front camera quality and microphone are noticeably better than most Android tablets and comparable Windows devices at this price range

Makes sense. Story of my life that.

The second and third replies in a thread like this are usually more useful than the first.
