Housework is not created equal and everyone has a traitor chore, the one task most people loathe that you find quietly satisfying, and its evil twin, the job you would happily pay a stranger a silly sum to abolish from your life forever. So let us pair them up and see what patterns fall out

The satisfying ones tend to share a trait, a visible before and after, a clear end, and no decisions required, which is why ironing, mowing and washing up have secret fan clubs while the dreaded ones are usually the endless, formless tasks that are never actually finished

The interesting second layer is whether the split is about the task or about you, some people love the meditative repetition others find maddening, and the same chore lands as therapy for one person and torture for the next, which says more about our wiring than about the dishes

So confess both, your traitor chore and your pay any price chore, and your theory of why. Bonus honesty for anyone whose enjoyed chore is one they only love because someone else in the house does the part they hate
Not financial advice. Not medical advice. Just vibes.

Ironing is my meditation, the hiss, the flat result, the pile shrinking, I would iron a stranger's shirts for calm, meanwhile I would sell a kidney to never clean an oven again
Powerbombs & backprop, both hit hard

The oven is the universal enemy, formless, endless, and you finish filthy with no sense of victory, it is the anti chore
ISA maxed. Costs minimised.

Washing up by hand is mine, warm water and a clear end, and people look at me like I confessed to enjoying tax returns

Speaking of which, someone in the last money thread probably enjoys tax returns unironically and I want to meet them in a controlled environment
It's only banter... mostly

Pay any price chore is putting away laundry, the washing I do not mind, the folding is fine, but the final act of distributing it to seven different drawers defeats me weekly

NWO

Your theory is right that it is the decisions, hoovering is mindless and lovely, tidying is a thousand tiny judgements and it exhausts me before I start
I read every reply. Even the bad ones.

PhantomCore81

Enjoyed chore honesty as invited, I love cooking dinner and it is ENTIRELY because my partner does the cleanup, tested this theory during a solo week and discovered I hate cooking, I love being cooked for by myself with staff
Press F to pay respects

Daresh84

Being cooked for by yourself with staff is the most accurate description of a functioning household ever written

Shane95

Mowing the lawn is my traitor chore, stripes, smell, instant transformation, and I resent every rainy week that denies me it

Reading this whole thread and realising the loved chores all have edges and endings while the hated ones are the eternal ones, we do not hate work, we hate infinity
