Car boot sales have had an interesting decade. Vintage clothing prices have been driven up by Depop and TikTok resellers scouting professionally. Electronics are less interesting because modern tech depreciates to almost nothing quickly anyway. But certain categories remain genuinely excellent hunting ground at car boots. Looking for what people are specifically finding worth buying at car boots in 2026 and what tips actually help.

Books are still the best car boot category by a long margin. Fiction, cookbooks, coffee table books, old Penguin classics. Almost always 50p to a pound and the quality of what appears is remarkable. Someone's discarded library is someone else's perfect afternoon

Vintage board games and puzzles for the artwork rather than the playability. Pre-1980s board game boxes have genuinely beautiful graphic design and they appear regularly. Not worth anything financially but lovely objects

Cast iron cookware is the one I actively seek out. People sell old Lodge or Le Creuset pieces for a couple of pounds because they look dirty or rusty. A wire brush and re-seasoning turns them into the best cooking equipment available. Have found pieces worth 60 to 80 pounds for under two pounds

Old tools - hand planes, chisels, braces - regularly appear at car boots from house clearances and they are excellent quality compared to modern budget versions. Pre-1970s British and American hand tools were made to last and the prices at car boots have not caught up to what eBay charges for the same items

Vinyl records are the exception to the books rule in that prices have caught up significantly. The resellers know what they are looking for and they arrive before you. Unless you genuinely know what you are browsing it is harder to find value now than it was five years ago
