Every generation has snacks and sweets that disappeared from the shelves, leaving fans heartbroken. Some vanished because of falling sales, some were quietly changed beyond recognition and others simply faded away. Many of us still talk about them years later, and campaigns to bring them back pop up regularly online

British favourites often mentioned include Wispa, which did come back after a fan campaign, as well as Spira, Fuse, Cadbury Snaps and Opal Fruits under their original name. Crisps like Monster Munch in different flavours, Space Raiders at their original price and Wotsits variations also bring back memories. Some sweets from the corner shop, sold in paper bags by the quarter, have mostly disappeared. Corner shops were the centre of the universe as a kid

Sometimes the snack is still around, but people insist it is smaller or the recipe has changed. Shrinkflation has made many old favourites feel like a shadow of what they were. Then there are imported treats people discovered on holiday and can no longer find

I would love to see Cadbury Spira return. It was a perfect tube of chocolate that lasted far longer than a normal bar. I still think about it surprisingly often

Space Raiders at ten pence. Not just the snack, but the price. Pickled onion flavour was the best. They went up to twenty, then thirty. Inflation in crisp form

Banjo bars. Nobody remembers them except me. Wafer with nuts and chocolate. Gone since the eighties

ParallelSelf50

Toffee Crisp in its original size. The new one is tiny

Shrinkflation strikes again. Two bites and it is gone now
Never pay full price. Never.
