Suggestion up for debate: should we build a proper archive board for old classic threads?

A concrete proposal rather than an open ended chat this time. Some of the very best threads this forum has ever produced eventually scroll off into the depths and effectively vanish, brilliant confessional threads, genuinely useful guides, the classic games that ran for hundreds of replies, so the idea is a dedicated archive board where members can nominate and pin the ones worth preserving properly

The practical shape would need thinking through, does it get curated by staff, voted on by members, or both, does it stay read only to preserve the original thread or allow new replies to bump old gold back to life, and does every board get its own archive corner or is one shared hall of fame simpler for everyone to actually browse

The case against is worth taking seriously too, archives can become graveyards nobody actually visits, curation takes real ongoing staff time that could go elsewhere, and there is something to be said for a forum's ephemeral nature being part of its charm, not everything needs to be preserved forever like a museum piece

So the actual questions for the board. Do you want this, curated or voted, read only or reopenable, one shared archive or one per board, and if you think the whole idea is unnecessary, make that case too, because an useful suggestion should survive real disagreement, not just enthusiasm

Disagree on reopenable, some of these threads are perfect as time capsules exactly as they finished, reopening risks diluting a great thread with weaker modern additions years later, read only preserves the actual quality
