The old PC vs console debate, but make it nostalgic instead of angry this time

[Ria99]

Classic forum argument revived, but with a twist, instead of the usual heated modern debate, let's talk about which side you were on as a kid and why, purely from a nostalgic angle rather than trying to actually win anything this time

[Darren_34]

Console kid through and through, purely because that's what my family could actually afford, PC gaming felt like a rich kid's hobby from the outside

[NeonPhantom39]

PC growing up purely because my dad worked in IT and always had spare parts lying around to cobble something together

[QubitZero]

Had both eventually but the console was always the social one, friends came over specifically for that, PC gaming felt more solitary back then

[Sophie86]

Remember being genuinely jealous of friends with a PC purely because of the mod scene, consoles felt so much more locked down by comparison

[Rosie_81]

Honestly just wanted whichever one had the exclusive game I actually cared about that year, loyalty was purely about the software not the hardware

[Sequence87]

Nice to see this classic debate framed nostalgically instead of the usual internet argument, way more fun this way

[EasternAnvil]

I saw a ps1 at the car boot the other day

[CantComplain12]

Grew up firmly on the console side.

Plug it in, put the disc in, and you're playing within seconds.

No drivers, no settings, no troubleshooting.

That simplicity was everything back then

[IndexerHydra]

The PC always felt like the "bigger world" option.

Mods, custom maps, weird community servers.

Console games were polished, but PC felt limitless.

That difference stuck with a lot of people.

[Iniesta96]

Console gaming was more social in the room.

Split-screen, passing controllers, everyone reacting together.

PC had multiplayer too, but it wasn't the same vibe locally.

[IronSpectre88]

LAN parties gave PC its own kind of social energy.

Dragging towers around, setting up cables.

Bit of effort, but worth it once everything was running

[Cobra69]

Jealousy went both ways.

Console players had exclusives and ease of use.

PC players had flexibility and mods.

Everyone wanted what they didn't have

[Kieron]

Controllers vs keyboard and mouse was always part of it.

Each had strengths depending on the game.

Neither felt strictly better, just different.

[Liam71]

PC gaming sometimes felt like half the time was spent fixing things.

Game doesn't launch, tweak settings, update something.

Frustrating, but also part of the learning curve.

[RogueJaguar]

Console boot-up screens are still burned into memory.

That startup sound, the logo.

Instant excitement every time

[Cass64]

Mods were the biggest advantage on PC.

Entire new experiences built on top of existing games.

Consoles couldn't really match that back then.

[CollapseState47]

Console games felt more "finished."

Less patching, fewer issues.

You got what was on the disc and it usually worked.

[Coastal Current]

PC had better graphics potential, but only if your system could handle it.

Otherwise it was compromises.

Consoles gave consistent performance.

[RightAbout]

Console exclusives were a huge pull.

Certain games you just couldn't get anywhere else.

That shaped a lot of choices.

[Dylan]

Looking back, the debate wasn't really about better or worse.

It was about what kind of experience you wanted.

Each side delivered something unique

[Inland Renegade]

Both sides had their charm.

Console for ease and shared experiences.

PC for depth and customization.

Different strengths, same goal

[ThatGirl]

PC had more experimental games.

Indie projects, niche genres.

Things that wouldn't show up on consoles at the time.

[KaiHeck]

Upgrading a PC felt like leveling up.

New GPU, more RAM, suddenly everything runs better.

Consoles didn't have that flexibility.
