Curious what people here actually think about this.

For context I have been on forums for a long time and this comes up differently here than elsewhere.

Not looking for a definitive answer, more a sense of what people have actually found worthwhile.

Most recommendations assume ideal conditions and ignore the fact that real situations are always messier.

What is the general feeling here?

Feels like the answer has shifted from "nice-to-have" to "baseline hygiene" over the past couple of years. The big gains aren't just in UI polish, it's the ecosystem: passkeys support, solid browser/mobile integration, and better breach alerts. That removes a lot of the old friction that made people fall back to reusing passwords. For most folks, a reputable manager plus 2FA is a meaningful step up from memory and sticky notes.

That said, it's not a silver bullet. You're concentrating risk into one vault, so your master password and recovery setup really matter, and not everyone is disciplined about backups. There's also the trust question with cloud sync and the occasional headline about vulnerabilities. If that trade-off makes you uneasy, a local-only option or something like a hardware-backed key for critical accounts can balance things out :-\

Net effect for me: fewer resets, stronger unique passwords everywhere, and less mental load. The biggest win is behavioral, not technical-people actually follow through because it's easier. If someone is willing to spend 10 minutes setting it up properly, it's worth it; if they won't, even the best tool won't save them :)
