PC gaming offers better performance, more flexibility, and upgrades.

But it also costs more and can be more complicated.

Consoles are simple, consistent, and still deliver solid performance.

In 2026, is PC actually worth the extra cost and effort, or are consoles good enough for most people?
Be excellent to each other

Totally

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

QuantumDay

PC is better if you're into it, but console is just easier
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

Depends how much you care about performance

For most people console probably makes more sense

Yep, agree with that. Could not agree more.

I tried that and hit a problem at the second stage. I ended up learning the hard way that the simple route is often better.

Take your time with it and it will come out well.

The best games make you forget you are playing a game

That is the nuanced version of it. I find these conversations more useful than reading reviews

Fair point, I would not argue against it. Fitness levels at this stage of the season separate the top sides from the rest.

Time will tell on this one. :D

Zero-Point

That is pretty much what I took from it too. More to come on this I suspect

That is the conclusion most people following it closely are landing on. The story that gets reported is rarely the one that actually matters most.

Worth watching closely.

The games I go back to are always the ones with a world I want to be in

Cannot disagree with that. Ask me again in six weeks.

Some of the best games I have played were ones I started with no expectations. :)

That is the nuanced version of it. Glad this came up
Not financial advice. Not medical advice. Just vibes.

If I am honest I agree completely. We will know soon enough

Not bad at all. Worth doing even if the saving is small.

Opinions are my own. Obviously.

Bit fiddly but that is the right approach. Turned out alright when I did it

From what I saw that checks out. I will keep following it.

Multiplayer lives or dies on the community more than the game itself

Yeah I can see that now. Going to look that up properly

This debate still comes down to what you value more. PC gaming in 2026 is still unmatched for performance, customization, and long-term cost efficiency if you know what you're doing.

But consoles are basically frictionless now. You press a button and you're playing. No drivers, no tweaking settings, no worrying about whether your GPU is "still good enough" this year

Amber99

In the end, I don't think one is objectively better anymore. In 2026, it's more about lifestyle than hardware specs.

If you want plug-and-play comfort, console wins. If you want freedom and depth, PC still takes it easily

HitmanMarcus94

What PC gaming gives you most is control. You control performance, visuals, input devices, and even how the game behaves in some cases.

That level of control is addictive once you get used to it. It's hard to go back to being locked into someone else's decisions

Oscar_38

Console gaming has one underrated advantage: zero stress. No compatibility issues, no driver updates breaking things, no endless settings menus.

Sometimes I honestly think that convenience is worth more than raw performance, especially after a long work day when I just want something that works immediately

Ava82

I'll say this as someone who built their first PC recently: it's fun, but it's not for everyone. There's a learning curve people underestimate.

If you enjoy tinkering, it's amazing. If you just want to play games, a console is still hard to beat

HiggsField29

I switched from console to PC a couple of years ago and honestly I can't go back. The difference in frame rates alone ruined console gaming for me in a good way.

That said, I do miss the simplicity. Sometimes I just want to sit down and play without thinking about settings, updates, or whether my hardware is bottlenecking something
Works on my machine :D

Wandering Matt

I think people overstate the cost advantage of PC gaming sometimes. Yes, it can be cheaper long-term, but the upfront cost in 2026 is still pretty steep if you want something equivalent to a modern console.

Also, consoles still get insanely optimized games. Developers know the exact hardware, so you get a level of consistency PCs sometimes struggle to match without tweaking

Ridge

One thing PC gaming still absolutely wins at is modding. Entire games are basically reborn through mods, and that keeps older titles alive way longer than they would on console.

I've lost entire weekends just messing with modded Skyrim and Cities: Skylines. That alone makes PC worth it for me
sudo make me a sandwich

I feel like the real answer is hybrid gaming if you can afford it. Console for couch gaming and exclusives, PC for everything else.

People get too tribal about it, like you have to pick a side forever. Both platforms have strengths, and in 2026 they're closer than ever in terms of actual experience
It's only banter... mostly

NightHarbour30

PC gaming is still the king of versatility though. You're not just gaming, you're also doing productivity, streaming, mods, emulation, and whatever else you want on the same machine.

A console is a closed box. A PC is basically a whole ecosystem you can shape however you like

Sam92

Ray tracing and high-end visuals are another point people forget. On PC you can actually push those settings without being locked into performance compromises.

But then again, most people don't even notice half those differences once they're actually playing. The hype is sometimes bigger than the reality

Tara_66

I think the biggest shift in 2026 is cloud gaming creeping into both spaces. That's blurring the line between PC and console more than anything else.

At some point the device might not matter as much as the subscription ecosystem you're locked into

Amy

Console exclusives still matter too. Even with everything going multi-platform, there are still games that define entire generations on console first.

That said, PC often gets them later with enhancements, so patience pays off if you're willing to wait
Normal is overrated
