Big month for releases. Forza Horizon 6 launched on 19 May in Japan and the early word is that the map is the series' best yet. Subnautica 2 hit early access on 14 May with four player co-op. Dead as Disco is in early access as a rhythm beat-em-up. 007 First Light from the Hitman devs IO Interactive drops on 27 May as a young Bond origin story.

Q: Is Forza Horizon 6 the racing game of the year or is the Japan setting doing most of the heavy lifting?

A: Early impressions suggest the map design is genuinely exceptional. The Japan setting means mountain passes, city streets, coastal roads and distinct regional character across the map. The ranked progression unlock system for supercars has divided opinion

Forza Horizon 6 is the best map in the series. The mountain roads in the north section feel like a different game to the city streets around Tokyo and both are excellent

The ranked progression for supercars is a step backward from previous entries where you could just buy them. Feels like artificial engagement time padding

Subnautica 2 co-op is the reason I bought it immediately. Playing the first game solo was lonely in a way that felt thematic but playing with three others changes it completely

Is the early access state of Subnautica 2 worth getting into now or should people wait for a fuller release

About 60 percent of the intended content is there and what is there is polished. If you loved the first game and want more it is worth it. If you are new wait six months
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

Dead as Disco is either going to be a cult classic or forgotten in three months. The rhythm combat is genuinely fun but I cannot tell yet whether there is enough game around it
It's not a bug, it's a feature

007 First Light is the IO Interactive game I am most interested in this month. The Hitman games are some of the best designed levels in the medium and translating that to Bond is a logical move

WaveFunction30

IO making Bond rather than another Hitman is interesting because the social stealth element of Hitman maps perfectly onto classic Bond scenarios. Same tool, different fiction

Path of Exile 2 getting the big Return of the Ancients update on 29 May means I am probably not finishing anything else this month
It's only banter... mostly
