The AI tool market has created a situation where genuinely useful capabilities are available for free. Some of these free tiers are genuinely useful and some are limited enough to be effectively demo versions.

What free tools are you actually getting real value from, what are the limits you hit, and what would make you pay for the upgrade?

The free tier on most major AI assistants is genuinely usable for casual tasks. The limits hit when you need to do something compute-intensive or use it for work at volume

Obsidian is free for personal use with local storage. The sync features cost money but if you are happy managing your own backup the core product is excellent at no cost

Figma's free tier is enough for individual designers who do not need team features. The limits are deliberate but the tool itself is full-featured
