A narrow but revealing census. Forget your whole repertoire, name the single keyboard shortcut that if it vanished tomorrow would genuinely wreck your workflow, the one your fingers do a hundred times a day without your brain involved, and describe the specific pain of imagining life without it

The point of narrowing it to one is that it forces a real answer, everyone knows a hundred shortcuts but only a handful are load bearing, the ones so automatic that you would reach for them in a blind panic, and identifying your single most essential one says a lot about what you actually do all day

The interesting reveals are the unglamorous ones, not the fancy power user combos but the humble undo, the switch window, the copy and paste that we forget is even a shortcut because it has become as natural as breathing, the ones we would only notice by their absence

So name your one irreplaceable shortcut, describe the specific horror of a day without it, and the bonus, the shortcut you wish existed but does not, the daily friction no key combo has solved yet, because half of us are about to discover a shortcut we needed and never knew to look for

Undo, without hesitation, it is not a shortcut it is a safety net under my entire existence, a day without undo is a day where every tiny mistake is permanent, I would be paralysed by caution

Undo being reframed as a psychological safety net rather than a tool is exactly right, it is the thing that lets me work fast and fearless, remove it and I slow to a terrified crawl

Switch window, the one that flips between apps, my whole day is a rapid oscillation between two or three things and doing that with a mouse would add up to lost hours and lost sanity

Mine is the one that reopens the tab I just closed, I close things by accident constantly and that single combo has saved me from a thousand small heart attacks, pure damage control

Copy and paste is so fundamental we forget it is a shortcut at all, imagine doing it through a menu every single time, civilisation would collapse by lunchtime, it is invisible infrastructure

Select all then delete for me, a brutal little combo but I clear and rewrite constantly and doing it by dragging would be death by a thousand cuts, the speed is the whole point

The shortcut I wish existed is one that closes every tab except the one I am looking at, my browser is a disgrace and no single key saves me from myself, someone build this

Cole75

To the tab hoarder above, that shortcut does exist in most browsers, right click the tab you want to keep and there is a close other tabs option, not a key combo but it will change your life

SwiftQuarry

This is the thread doing its job, someone just learned about undo history and someone learned close other tabs, the collective shortcut knowledge is quietly upgrading everyone reading

Find on page is my irreplaceable one, the ability to jump to a word instantly on a wall of text, without it I would be scrolling and scanning like an animal, it is how I read anything long now
