Is gaming on a laptop actually viable now or still compromised?

Tried the obvious things and wanted to know what actually works.

The simplest fix is usually right but it takes longer to find.

Practical experience from people here is always worth more to me than what comes up on a search.

I want to know what the second year of doing this looks like, not just the first week.
