Social media is great for quick attention, but it is terrible for proper critique. Most comments are either empty praise, silence or weirdly aggressive drive by opinions.

Forums can be slower, but they often create better discussions. People explain what works, what does not and why. That kind of feedback is far more useful than collecting likes from people who barely looked at the image.

Do you think old style photography forums still have a role, or have artists moved too far into fast scrolling platforms?
ISA maxed. Costs minimised.

Forums are much better for critique because the pace is slower.

People actually write paragraphs instead of dropping a fire emoji and disappearing

The problem is that forums need strong culture. Without that, critique threads either become too harsh or too polite to be useful

Social media rewards instantly pleasing images.

Forums can reward improvement, process and deeper discussion, which is healthier for artists long term
Somewhere between inspired and overwhelmed

I miss proper photo critique where people talked about light, framing and intent.

Most platforms now just reward whatever stops the scroll for half a second

The best feedback I ever received came from a forum user who was brutally specific but not rude.

That kind of critique is rare now because social media is built for reaction, not development
Question everything. Especially this.
