Modern wrestling fans argue about this constantly. Some want great in-ring matches with clean finishes and athletic creativity, while others care more about characters, promos, rivalries, and the emotional reason for the match. WWE often leans harder into spectacle and story, while AEW built much of its appeal around match quality and wrestling variety. The best wrestling usually has both: a match good enough to remember and a reason to care before the bell rings

WWE is stronger when the story is hot. AEW is stronger when the match quality carries the show. Both styles have value

The ideal is simple: make me care before the match, then reward me with a match worth watching
