A great surprise return can create one of the loudest reactions in wrestling. The problem is that if every big show depends on a comeback, debut, or mystery partner, the weekly stories can start to feel less important. Surprise returns are at their best when they add to an existing direction, not when they are used to cover up a lack of planning

I think companies have trained fans to fantasy book surprises instead of watching the story in front of them

The best returns are the ones that feel earned. If someone comes back and immediately has a reason to be there, the pop lasts longer
