Modern life admin question. Count your active group chats right now, the family one, the school parents one, the mates one, the fantasy football one that outlived the fantasy football, the one for a holiday that happened in 2023 and refuses to die. Report the number honestly

Then the real question, which one is the chaos chat, the one that produces 90 unread messages about absolutely nothing while the important chat sits silent for weeks? Every phone has one and its identity says a lot about a person

Also seeking the board's ruling on group chat etiquette disputes of long standing. Leaving a group silently versus announcing it, the legality of the thumbs up as a full reply, voice notes over two minutes, and whoever changes the group name at 1am, this is now the courtroom

And a soft spot for the dormant chats, the ones that only wake for birthdays and bad news. Somehow those are the ones you would miss most, or is that just me

Counted as instructed, fourteen active, which explains everything about my battery and my attention span. The chaos chat is the five a side one, no football has been discussed since March

Odd Arrow

The holiday chat that refuses to die is a documented species, ours is named after a 2019 trip and now functions as a meme delivery system between four people who have not met since

Court ruling one, leaving silently is COWARDICE, one farewell message, no essay, then go with dignity

QuantumToken57

Hard disagree, the silent exit is a mercy to everyone, announcing it demands a ceremony nobody wants. Leave like a cat, no notes

SortedMate

The thumbs up as a full reply is legal and necessary, some messages are receipts, not conversations. The alternative is fourteen people typing lovely, thanks
VAR can do one

Voice notes over two minutes require sentencing guidelines, that is not a message, that is a podcast I did not subscribe to

Counter opinion from the voice note community, some of us drive, some of us think out loud, and the transcript button exists. The problem is not the format, it is your friends' editing
Somewhere between inspired and overwhelmed

The 1am group name changer here, we add colour to your grey lives and accept your judgement as tribute

The dormant chat point is real and slightly moving, mine is old workmates, silent for months then twenty messages of pure warmth when someone's kid arrives. The embers matter more than the bonfires

Census update from mid thread, muted three chats while reading, this topic is already the most productive thing the forum has done for me

ShadowPilot

Fourteen chats, one chaos engine, a courtroom of etiquette disputes and a soft ending about embers. This thread IS a group chat and I love it here
