Documentary series can be dangerous because one episode easily becomes four. The best ones have that strange pull where each episode answers one question and quietly opens another.

But not every story needs a full series. Some documentaries feel stretched, repeating the same points just to fill the episode count.

What makes you stick with a documentary series? Is it the subject, the access, the editing, the people involved, or the promise of a proper conclusion?

Access is the big thing for me. If it has footage or interviews you cannot get elsewhere, I am in
Coffee first. Questions later.

I hate when a documentary series is clearly a two hour film stretched into six episodes

The editing matters more than people realise. A good documentary has rhythm

I like documentaries where my opinion changes as more information comes out

True crime especially needs to be handled carefully. It should not feel like entertainment built from someone else's pain
