First impressions are not always right. Some films seem confusing, slow or disappointing the first time around, only to reveal their brilliance on a second viewing. Maybe you were not in the right mood, maybe you missed key details or maybe you went in with the wrong expectations. Either way, the second watch changed your opinion completely

Films with twists are obvious candidates, since you notice all the clues the second time. The Sixth Sense, Fight Club and The Prestige all work very differently on a rewatch. But it also happens with slower films, like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Blade Runner, which can feel dull at first and then mesmerising later. Comedies sometimes improve too, once you catch jokes you missed

My example is The Big Lebowski. I found it baffling the first time, wondering why everyone loved it so much. On a second watch, with friends who knew it well, I suddenly got the humour and the characters. Now it is one of my favourite films. Second chances apply to films as much as people

Sometimes our own life experience changes how we see a film. A film about parenting, loss or growing older can feel very different when you have lived through those things yourself

Which film did you only appreciate on a second watch? What changed your mind?
