The next Avatar film continues pushing visuals and world-building. Even people who didn't love the story still watch for the scale and effects

Avatar has reached a strange place in pop culture.

People spend years saying nobody talks about it.

Then a trailer drops and suddenly everyone is dissecting every frame, every creature, and every new biome.

The story has never been the main attraction for me. It's more like booking a ticket to visit somewhere that doesn't exist.

Calling it the GTA VI of movies isn't that far off because the event itself becomes bigger than the plot. Half the excitement is wondering what James Cameron has managed to pull off this time.

Part of me admires how Cameron refuses to chase trends.

Everyone else is trying shared universes, nostalgia bait, or squeezing every last drop out of existing franchises.

Meanwhile he's over there spending years making underwater performance capture because apparently normal filmmaking wasn't difficult enough.

Whether people love Avatar or not, nobody can accuse him of doing the bare minimum.

That's probably why these films become events rather than just another weekend release.

The visuals are going to be ridiculous. That's almost a given at this point.

What I'd really like is for the new culture they're introducing to be more memorable than just another colourful tribe with slightly different hairstyles.

Pandora is at its best when it feels like an actual world rather than a collection of very expensive wallpapers.

If they nail that side of it, I'll happily sit through another three hour runtime.

Besides, cinema could use more films where seeing them on the biggest screen possible actually makes a difference.

The funniest thing is that there will still be comments saying, "I've never met an Avatar fan."

Meanwhile the cinemas are completely packed.

It's like the audience collectively appears out of thin air every few years, buys tickets, keeps the lights on for every multiplex, then vanishes back into the forest until the next sequel. \

Not every blockbuster needs a constant online fandom posting memes every day.

Sometimes people just want to watch a spectacular film, eat too much popcorn, and go home thinking, "Yeah, that looked amazing."

Not convinced it's quite GTA VI levels of hype.

That game has people analysing reflections in windows and counting birds in a trailer frame by frame.

Avatar has plenty of anticipation, but outside movie circles it doesn't seem to generate quite the same level of obsession.

That said, never underestimate Cameron.

The man has somehow turned proving people wrong into a recurring hobby. \

Billions at the box office feels almost guaranteed unless something completely unexpected happens.

What's funny is that every Avatar sequel seems to follow the exact same cycle.

"Nobody cares anymore."

Trailer releases.

"Okay... that actually looks incredible."

Then it quietly prints money while the internet moves on to arguing about something else. Cameron must have a calendar reminder that simply says, "Silence critics again."
