The 28 Years Later trailer is everything horror fans hoped for. Danny Boyle directing again, Cillian Murphy returning as Jim, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer as new leads, and the unmistakable visual language of the original 28 Days Later updated for a world that has changed significantly since 2002. The infected design has evolved. The scope feels bigger. The dread feels identical.

Sony has the film in cinemas June 20 2026. This is the first film in years where the trailer alone has made horror fans feel like the genre is in genuinely good hands.

Cillian Murphy returning makes this a genuine sequel rather than a spiritual successor. Jim surviving 28 years and what that has done to him is the story worth telling

TheGame_Fan

Danny Boyle has not made a horror film since the original and the trailer shows he has not lost the instinct for it

Aaron Taylor-Johnson having a remarkable run of major projects right now. Kraven, now this
Cashback on everything or it didn't happen

The infected design being evolved after 28 years is the smart detail. Evolution as a horror concept tied to a long timeline is genuinely interesting

Jodie Comer in a horror film with Danny Boyle is the casting that makes this immediately serious

The visual language is recognisably the same as the original. The handheld, the light, the silence before noise. Boyle remembers what made that film work

June 20 is a strong release date. Early summer before the blockbuster rush means it has room to breathe

Zero-Point

The original 28 Days Later is one of the genuine horror masterpieces of the 2000s. That is an almost impossible bar and the trailer suggests they are not pretending otherwise

The people who were 20 when the original came out are now 44. What rage and infection means to an audience that has lived through a real pandemic is genuinely different
