Tamma frames quantum mechanics as part of what St Augustine called the book of nature, a complementary way of learning about God alongside scripture, arguing quantum physics gives the most fundamental epistemological and ontological insights into nature, the way God willed it and has ordered it, though he was careful to note that empirical science cannot prove God since God is beyond the natural world and the scientific method entirely

The core philosophical argument he makes is genuinely interesting regardless of your own beliefs, that the laws of physics cannot explain themselves, and the fact that the universe has intelligible laws that a rational observer can actually understand is itself the deeper mystery pointing beyond physics, he specifically cites Einstein calling the comprehensibility of the world a mystery and even a miracle as evidence that serious physicists themselves have felt this same sense of awe

On divine action specifically, Tamma draws on Aquinas describing God as the primary cause while natural laws and created things act as secondary causes, and suggests quantum phenomena like interference and wave particle duality show a world richer than a purely materialist view allows, though he's careful to distinguish this from just using quantum language to support vague spiritual claims that have nothing to do with actual physics

He was notably cautious about overclaiming though, warning against what he calls quantum quackery, where people misuse quantum terminology to prop up spiritual ideas with no real connection to the physics, and he specifically pushed back on the common misconception that quantum mechanics is pure chaos incompatible with an ordered creation, when its actually a probabilistic but still fundamentally intelligible theory

Tamma is now pushing for a genuine interdisciplinary revival bringing together quantum physics, philosophy and theology, citing a recent gathering of physicists, philosophers and theologians at Chapman University in July as an early step toward the kind of rigorous cross disciplinary scholarship he thinks both the Church and wider society genuinely need right now

Whether or not you share the religious framing, the underlying philosophical point about intelligibility being a genuine mystery worth sitting with rather than just assuming away is a point that even a purely secular physicist could find worth considering seriously
