I want to read more and scroll less. Is a proper ereader still worth buying instead of using a tablet?

A proper ereader is absolutely better if the goal is distraction free reading. Kindle Paperwhite is a safe pick because the screen is comfortable and the battery lasts ages

I would go for Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition if you want the nicer extras, but the normal Kindle Paperwhite is enough for most people

The big advantage is that it does not feel like a phone or tablet, so you are less tempted to jump into apps

If the person already owns Kindle books, staying inside the Kindle ecosystem is usually the easiest route
