That is pretty much what I took from it too. From what I have seen the gap between headlines and reality is still pretty wide.

More to come on this I suspect.

Background processes and startup items cause more problems than hardware failures in my experience.

That works in theory but the prep is more involved than it sounds. Happy to answer questions if you get stuck.

The first question I always ask is what changed just before the problem started.
I read every reply. Even the bad ones.

Disk health is worth running a diagnostic on before spending on anything. :)

Agree, and the implications are bigger than most people realise. I find the financial angle of any big story is usually the most underreported part.

Curious to see how this develops.

A lot of Windows issues sort themselves with a fresh install of drivers.
Opinions are my own. Obviously.

Completely agree, and it is frustrating that this is not more widely known. When I ran into something similar the biggest improvement came from stripping things back and checking the obvious basics first.

Give it a go and report back.

Most slowdowns on older machines are disk related not processor related.

Agree, and the implications are bigger than most people realise. Most people form opinions on things like this before the full picture is available.
