Sports has a delicious habit of punishing certainty. That said, Kansas City's got the quarterback who plays chess while everyone else is playing checkers, and that matters more than any statistical model suggests.

The Lions narrative is compelling, no question. Detroit's been the punchline of "next year" jokes for decades, and there's something genuinely satisfying about watching a franchise finally assemble something that looks like a real contender. The city deserves it. The fans have earned it. But "deserve" and "win the Super Bowl" operate in different universes. One's about emotion, the other's about execution under pressure.

What makes this year particularly interesting is how many teams actually have a plausible path. The 49ers still have that defensive front that can disrupt any offense. The Bills keep finding ways to be both brilliant and heartbreaking. Even the Ravens, with that running game, could impose their will on the right matchup. Parity's supposed to be the NFL's selling point, and this season's actually delivering on it.

My gut says Chiefs again, but my brain knows that's lazy prediction-making. The "inevitable" label is as much a burden as it is an advantage. Every team's got their number circled on the calendar. Every defensive coordinator's spent the offseason dreaming up new ways to make Mahomes uncomfortable. Eventually, something breaks. Whether it's this year or next, the cycle turns.
