Television coverage shapes which sports become popular. Football, rugby, cricket, tennis, Formula One, golf and darts all get plenty of airtime in the UK, even if some of it is behind a paywall. But many other sports struggle to get any coverage at all, even when they have big participation numbers or dramatic competitions. Fans often have to rely on niche streaming services or social media clips

Women's sport has been one example of how coverage changes things. Women's football, netball and cricket have attracted much bigger audiences as broadcasters have shown more games. Other sports, like handball, volleyball, cycling and athletics outside the major championships, still get limited coverage. Then there are sports that fans think would make brilliant television, if only someone gave them a chance

My wish is for more squash on television. It is fast, skilful and dramatic, with long rallies and remarkable athleticism. The glass courts used at big tournaments make it easy to film. Yet most people only see it once every few years, if that

The rise of streaming has helped some sports reach audiences without traditional broadcast deals, through YouTube, dedicated apps and social media. That is good news for fans, but it can be hard to find matches. Free to air coverage still reaches the most people, especially younger viewers who might be inspired to take up a sport

Which sport do you wish was shown more on TV? And how would you sell it to a new audience?
