Captaincy is about more than skill. The best captains lead by example, stay calm under pressure and lift those around them when things go wrong. Some athletes seem born to lead, while others are brilliant players who prefer to let their performances do the talking. So if your team was in a crisis, who would you want in charge?

The crisis could be anything. Two goals down at half time in a cup final, a cricket team collapsing on the final day, a rugby side struggling in a World Cup knockout match or an F1 team facing a messy strategy call. You can pick from any sport and any era, as long as you explain why they are the leader you would trust. History is full of captains who dragged their teams through

There are some obvious names. Roy Keane, Martin Johnson, Ben Stokes, Steven Gerrard and Richie McCaw are all known for leading from the front. Some people might pick someone calmer, like Joe Root, or a coach style figure from individual sports, such as Serena Williams. There is no right answer

Think about different styles of leadership. Some captains inspire with passion, some with calm authority and some by simply refusing to lose. Which approach would you want when everything is going wrong?

Who would you pick, and what would they say in the dressing room?
My neural net has more confidence than me
