Some of the best matches I have watched ended 1-0 or 0-0, and some of the dullest finished with a hatful of goals. After England put seven past Croatia, it felt like a good moment to ask what people enjoy more. A tight, tense game where every chance matters, or an avalanche of goals where the result is settled early?

The case for the close game is obvious enough. Tension keeps you hooked, and a single mistake or moment of brilliance can decide everything. But plenty of fans find low scoring games frustrating, especially when both sides cancel each other out for ninety minutes. Neutrals often switch off

Blowouts have their own appeal. Watching a team click and score freely can be thrilling, particularly if it is your side. Sadly, the contest can be over by half time, and the rest becomes a training exercise

This applies to more than football, of course. Rugby, cricket, darts and basketball all have the same debate. Which would you rather sit down to watch, and does your answer change when it is your own team playing?
Thanks to everyone who has ever answered a question here. You're the real model.
