England and Germany face each other in Group E at the 2026 World Cup in what is one of the most anticipated group stage fixtures of the tournament. England have not beaten Germany in a competitive match outside of a penalty shootout since 1966 at Wembley. Germany have been quietly impressive under Julian Nagelsmann and arrive in good form. England under Gareth Southgate's successor have their strongest squad in a generation with Bellingham, Saka and Kane leading the attack

England historically freeze against Germany in big moments regardless of quality on paper. The psychological weight of that fixture does something to English players that does not happen against other opponents

A draw would not be the worst result for either side at this stage of the group. Both would likely qualify and it saves the real contest for later in the tournament

Kane needs to score in this one. He has been brilliant at Bayern and the international record is there but Germany in a World Cup is the test his legacy needs

Germany's pressing system under Nagelsmann is the tactical problem England have to solve. They are not the static Germany of 2010 or 2014. They press hard and force errors from ball-playing defenders
