Floyd Mayweather fights Mike Zambidis in an exhibition in Athens, Greece tonight at the OAKA Olympic Complex, broadcast on DAZN. Zambidis is a Greek kickboxing legend with enormous domestic following, which explains the Athens staging. Mayweather, 49, has been on a world exhibition tour since retiring with a 50-0 record that ended with the Logan Paul spectacle in 2021, fighting opponents ranging from Don Moore to Deji to various regional stars across Asia and Europe. The exhibitions have generated significant revenue while requiring virtually no real competitive risk.

The boxing world has complicated feelings about the exhibition era. Mayweather is the clearest example but he is far from alone: Jake Paul and Logan Paul have built entire careers on exhibition-adjacent contests, Saudi Arabia has been funding spectacles that blend real fights with celebrity matchups, and the line between competitive boxing and entertainment product has never been blurrier. Purists argue that exhibitions dilute the sport and confuse audiences about what competitive boxing actually is. The counter-argument is that they bring enormous audiences who then discover the real sport.

Zambidis as an opponent is a more credible choice than many of Mayweather's recent dance partners. A multiple kickboxing world champion with genuine combat sports credentials, he will have a fanbase that is actually invested in the outcome rather than simply watching a spectacle. Whether the format allows anything that could be called a competitive boxing exhibition is the usual question. Mayweather has shown no inclination to take risks and the Greece appearance is almost certainly a commercial arrangement rather than a sporting statement.
