Australia have named their 23 man squad for the home Rugby League World Cup, Zero Tackle reports. The defending champions open the tournament against New Zealand on 15 October. Isaah Yeo is captain, and he is playing through a ruptured pectoral muscle. Surgery will probably wait until early next year

There are two big recalls. Latrell Mitchell and Tom Trbojevic are both back, which the article calls a double surprise selection. Both are hugely talented, but both have had injury troubles in recent seasons. When fit, they are among the best players in the world

Four NRL grand finalists are in the squad: Bradman Best, Lindsay Collins, James Tedesco and Sam Walker. Reece Walsh is fit after missing the end of the season through injury. There are six uncapped players: Best, Jacob Preston, Blayke Brailey, Walker, David Fifita and Jack Bostock. That is a fair bit of new blood for a home World Cup

Selwyn Cobbo is the biggest omission. Campbell Graham, Matt Burton, Mitch Barnett and Tom Flegler can also count themselves unlucky. The shadow players are Ethan Strange, Hamish Stewart and Thomas Jenkins. It shows the depth Australia have, as several of the left out names would walk into most other squads

Yeo spoke well about the honour. He said there is no higher honour in the game than playing for your country, and he is fortunate enough to captain it. He also said he only put his hand up for selection because he felt he could add to the team. Playing through a ruptured pec is a sign of how much it means to him

Can anyone stop Australia on home soil? And were Mitchell and Trbojevic the right calls?
