The UK has one of the strongest quantum technology sectors in the world, but it can be hard to keep track of who does what. This directory lists UK-founded or UK-based quantum companies, grouped by what they build, with one verified fact and an official link for each. It covers hardware, software, networking, security and sensing. Funding figures are round sizes as announced, not valuations or share prices

The government pledged 2 billion pounds for quantum in March 2026, including 1 billion pounds to buy large scale quantum computers through a programme called ProQure, so this list is likely to grow. National labs such as the National Quantum Computing Centre are not included, because they are not companies

Quantum computer hardware

1. Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), London: superconducting quantum computers. Raised a 260 million pound Series C led by Bullhound Capital in June 2026, described as Europe's largest private quantum computing round.
2. Quantum Motion, London: silicon spin qubits made with standard chip manufacturing, a UCL spin-out. Raised a 160 million dollar Series C in May 2026, and delivered a full stack silicon quantum computer to the NQCC in 2025.
3. Quantinuum, Cambridge and Broomfield, Colorado: trapped ion quantum computers. Formed in 2021 from Honeywell Quantum Solutions and Cambridge Quantum, with its European headquarters in Cambridge.
4. Universal Quantum, a University of Sussex spin-out: trapped ions controlled by microwaves on silicon chips. Won a 67 million euro contract from the German Aerospace Center in 2022. Homepage | Universal Quantum
5. Oxford Ionics, Oxford: electronically controlled trapped ions on chips. Acquired by IonQ in September 2025, which Oxford University called its highest value quantum spin-out acquisition. University of Oxford's highest-value quantum computing spinout acquisition
6. ORCA Computing, London: photonic quantum computers, the PT Series. Systems were running in Digital Realty's London Innovation Lab as of May 2026. ORCA Quantum Systems at Digital Realty's London Lab
7. Aegiq, Sheffield: photonic quantum computing. Won a competition in 2024 to deliver its Artemis system to the NQCC. https://www.hpcwire.com/off-the-wire/aegiq-wins-competition-to-deliver-its-photonic-quantum-computer-to-uks-national-quantum-computing-centre/
8. Infleqtion UK, Oxford: neutral atom quantum computing, the UK arm of a US company. Delivered a 100 qubit system to the NQCC, announced in March 2026. Infleqtion Delivers the UK's Only Operational 100-Qubit Quantum Computing System at the National Quantum Computing Centre

Error correction, software and applications

9. Riverlane, Cambridge: the quantum error correction stack, called Deltaflow, that hardware companies need to run reliable computations. Raised a 75 million dollar Series C in 2024. https://www.riverlane.com/press-release/riverlane-raises-75-million-to-meet-surging-global-demand-for-quantum-error-correction-technology
10. Phasecraft, Bristol and London: quantum algorithms for materials and optimisation. Raised a 34 million dollar Series B in September 2025. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250902657177/en/
11. Moth, London: quantum software for music, games and visual media, including the Atlas platform used at this year's Moth Hack. Raised a 3 million pound seed round in 2024. Enabling the next era of music gaming and the arts with Moth Quantum - Maddyness UK

Networking and photonic components

12. Nu Quantum, Cambridge: quantum networking to link quantum processors together. Raised a 60 million dollar Series A led by National Grid Partners in December 2025. https://www.cam.ac.uk/news/cambridge-spinout-nu-quantum-attracts-60-million-investment-for-quantum-computer-networking
13. Duality Quantum Photonics, Bristol: thin film lithium niobate photonic chips. Founded by Anthony Laing and Alberto Politi. Duality Quantum Photonics
14. Wave Photonics, Cambridge: photonic chip designs and packaging for quantum and other uses. Raised 4.5 million pounds in 2024. Wave Photonics secures £4.5M ($5.8M) to enable the widespread deployment of light-based chips

Security and randomness

15. PQShield, Oxford: post quantum cryptography for hardware and software. Its team co-authored algorithms in the NIST standards, and it raised a 37 million dollar Series B in 2024. PQShield raises $37M Series B for post-quantum cryptography
16. Arqit, London: quantum safe encryption software. Selected for the NCSC's post quantum cryptography pilot in September 2025. NCSC selects Arqit to support UK's post-quantum cryptography migrations
17. KETS Quantum Security, Bristol: chip based quantum key distribution. Announced integration with Cisco IOS XR routing in September 2026. https://cybermagazine.com/news/cisco-and-kets-achieve-a-secure-quantum-security-milestone

22. QLM Technology, Bristol: quantum LiDAR for imaging greenhouse gas leaks. Raised a 14 million dollar Series A in 2022. QLM Raises $14m Series A - Britbots

A note on supply chains: Oxford Instruments sold its NanoScience cryogenics business to Quantum Design in January 2026, and it now operates as Quantum Design Oxford in Abingdon, making the dilution refrigerators that many quantum computers need. The UK also has a growing number of quantum startups not listed here, so suggestions are very welcome

If you know of a UK quantum company that should be on the list, or spot something out of date, reply with the name, location, what it does and an official link. The directory will be updated as companies grow, merge or move
