Happy to share what I find out once I have tried it, if that is useful to anyone else in the same position.

I am not expecting a simple answer - I am expecting the kind of answer that only comes from having actually done it.

The sea has always felt like one of those places where words arrive a little easier. There is something about standing near waves that makes ordinary thoughts slow down.

A first draft often captures that feeling better than a polished version because it keeps the immediate emotion. Sometimes too much editing removes the salt from it, if that makes sense.

Going back years later is strange because the place is physically the same but your perspective has completely changed.

A small suggestion from a writing point of view: keep some of the rough edges from the first version.

Readers connect with the little details that feel lived in, like a specific sound, smell or image. Perfectly polished descriptions can sometimes feel distant.

The way around that is not trying to invent a completely new ocean. It is showing your own relationship with it.

A lonely lighthouse, a fading horizon or an empty beach can say a lot without needing a full explanation.
